What should you look for when comparing a glass aquariums?
We have found people selling products similar to our current Grand View series and our discontinued Full View series aquariums. Close observation indicates these products present some or all the problems detailed below:
How thick and strong is the glass?
Many aquarium makers "guess" the thickness of glass to be used based only on the weight of water it can hold. They often fail to calculate other factors, such as the extra weight of live rocks or decorations and stress point changes related to maintenance, the re-organizing of the tank and the possible falling of these piled up materials.
As a designer and manufacturer pursuing perfection in glass aquarium production for over 20-years, we believe that any manufacturer making 100 gallon or larger tanks using 10mm (3/8") thick or thinner non-tempered glass merely gambles, not guarantees, the holding of water in these tanks. Such a gamble puts your live stock, your home furnishings, and your downstairs neighbor relations at stake. - It is surely a quick sale for the seller because the material cost of 10mm thick glass is much lower than the next thicker size available.
How clear is the glass of Aqua Vim® aquariums?
The glass we use for our tanks is especially made to surpass Aqua Vim's competitors; it is clearer than glass used by most other manufacturers. We can also custom-make aquariums using Starphire® or Ultra-clear glass to meet your requirements if you prefer. See the differences below:

Aqua Vim® uses either Aqua Vim glass in its standard tanks for most customers, or UltraClear glass for extreme hobbyists. Since it is difficult to bent low-iron UltraClear glass even in a digitally-controlled thermal oven, a tank built using curved UltraClear glass is usually about 3 times more expensive than a tank built using curved Aqua Vim glass.
Are there any bubbles or distortions of view at the areas of bending on a tank?
This is a challenge where most glass bending factories fail. Why? Bending glass is difficult. Bending a large piece of glass is more difficult and bending a large piece of glass without creating bubbles or distortions of view is the most difficult of all. It is almost un-achievable without a large furnace and computerized equipment that precisely controls the temperatures of each of the heating elements that are positioned at different areas of the glass. Each point is also temperature controlled for different time periods in the process. If glass coming out of the production line is not satisfactory, as determined by our quality control team, it is discarded.
Is the glue quality and glue workmanship on glass seams good enough?
Quality silicon glue is essential, as well as glue work itself. If glue quality is poor or glue work is unevenly or poorly applied, shrimp, crab, or other animals could actually nip the silicon off, causing leaks. The superiority of Aqua Vim's glue workmanship is visible to naked eye.
Products that try to imitate us or look similar to ours should be cheaper because not only is the glass being used thinner or of a lower grade or showing severely distorted views at the point of bending of the glass because they lack the extremely expensive digital-computerized machines we employ, but they also use lesser grade materials for their stands and canopies.
